PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Helsinki’s public transportation, managed by HSL, is built on efficiency and sustainability. It integrates trams, buses, trains, the metro, and even ferries under one seamless service. All forms of public transport can be used with the same ticket, making it easy to move around the city. The whole city center of Helsinki, including the sea fortress Suomenlinna, is covered with an AB ticket.
How to buy a ticket?
There are several ticket options to choose from — whether you need a single ticket valid for 80 minutes (for zones AB, the price is €3.20–3.40 depending on the point of purchase; additional service fees may apply), a 24-hour ticket (for zones AB, the price is €10), or a multi-day ticket valid for up to 13 days.
The easiest way to get your ticket to ride is purchasing it on HSL application. All kinds of tickets can bought not just for you but to your friends and family as well. You can purchase single and day tickets (1–3 days) for adults and children without creating an HSL account by using the app as a guest.
Adults' single tickets can be purchased onboard from the small blue machines with the contactless payment of your debit/credit card. No ticket is printed out in this case; your card serves as the ticket for the next 80 minutes. Check here how to use contactless payment.
Other options are ticket machines on the stops and stations, as well as R-kioski convenience stores and Alepa and S-market supermarkets located around the city. Check here to find all sales and service points on a map.
