Towards prime condition

The aim of church renovations in 1980s and 1990s was to finish the church in prime condition in time for the 250th anniversary of Suomenlinna in 1998. The facades of the church and the bell tower were plastered and painted with lime paint. The fence surrounding the church was reconditioned and foundations were strengthened. The bell tower was installed with an electrically controlled bell mechanism. The church interior underwent liturgical changes as the altar table was detached from the back wall. The crypt of the church was renovated for parish activities. On the eve of the anniversary in 1996 the memorial of Estonians who died while in the service of the Finnish naval forces was unveiled.
