At the Maritime Center Vellamo, you will learn about the major naval battles in the Baltic Sea and the history of the Swedish fortress town before and now. The church of St. Nicholas, completed in 1801, recalls the history of the fortress town and is also the oldest building in Kotka. The Langinkoski Imperial Fishing Lodge invites you to get to know imperial life in the late 19th century. Designed by Alvar Aalto, Sunila is the most internationally known architectural site in the Kotka region and an icon of international modernism, which was presented at the World Exhibitions in Paris and New York in 1937 and 1939.
