Maritime Museum, Pommern and the Maritime Quarter

Kastelholm and Bomarsund

Kastelholm Castle in Sund was originally a defensive castle founded at the end of the 14th century. Adjacent to Kastelholm Castle is Jan Karlsgårdenan open-air museum containing examples of Ålandic vernacular buildings, mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries.

In Sund there are also Bomarsund fortress, built by the Russian armed forces in the 19th century. Stroll around the ruins of the fortress and download the Coastal Past app for an extraordinary historical experience. From the Notvik towers you have a stunning view of the whole area.
