This is the season for Finnish thick buckwheat pancakes, known as blinis, which in Finland are typically served with sides such as smoked reindeer mousse, fish roe, red onion, and various other toppings. Blinis are available in many restaurants, and here are some of our recommendations:
Treat yourself to blinis at the tractor-themed Restaurant Zetor, which serves beloved Finnish classics alongside countryside‑inspired specialties. Finnish rock, pop, and Finnhits add to the fun atmosphere.
Kappeli, “the jewel of Esplanadi Park”, was a popular meeting place for poets, writers, and artists in the late 19th century – some of whose works can still be seen in the restaurant. Today, Kappeli remains a popular gathering spot and serves blinis both as starters and main courses. A vegan blini platter is also available.
Saslik offers the best of Slavic–French cuisine and has been serving its signature fluffy blinis since 1972. Blinis are available on the menu all year round – and you can enjoy as many as you like! Blinis with vegetarian toppings also available.
At the stylish Restaurant Lasipalatsi you can enjoy blinis with caviar and a range of other toppings, or opt for their vegan version. Feel free to enjoy as many as you like!
Juttutupa, with its relaxed atmosphere, is one of the oldest restaurants in Helsinki and hosts free concerts on a weekly basis. In addition to traditional blinis, Juttutupa offers vegan and gluten‑free options, each served with several delicious toppings.
Restaurant Meripaviljonki serves blinis on its à la carte menu from Monday to Saturday, and offers a special blini brunch buffet on Sundays. Vegan blinis also available. Floating on the waters of Eläintarhanlahti in Hakaniemi, the restaurant offers wide, panoramic views of the bay.
