The neo-Gothic era began in our church building in the 1840s and lasted until 1910s. The neo-Gothic church in Loviisa (Loviisa is a city in Finland)which was recently completed, was used to calculate the costs of the St. John's Church, among other things.
The neo-Gothic style revived thegothicform language. The style emerged in the18th centuryiEnglandwhere there was a fascination withthe Middle Ages. Pointed arches and window arches characterize the style. The windows play an important role in the symbolic system of the buildings and were decorated with stained glass. The most important window in a Gothic cathedral is the rose window above the main entrance.
Britain has many famous buildings in the Gothic Revival style, including the Parliament building in London. In the United States, the Gothic Revival style dominated skyscrapers until the 1920s.
