The Gustavian sofa in the salon is of Swedish provincial design. This is evident in the shape of the backrest and the sofa’s unique proportions, which set it apart from sofas pro - duced in Stockholm during this period. The suite was made in the early 20th century. White-painted furniture became popular in Finland towards the end of the 19th century. The neo-Rococo pedestal was manufactured in the latter half of the 19th century in Europe. This was a period when ceramics became an important element in interior design. Homes filled with figurines, urns, and painted plates – and so did the interiors in Amos’s residences. The master of the house had a particular fondness for figurines, as evidenced by the porcelain objects displayed in most rooms at Söderlångvik.
