Helsinki Baltic Herring Market

Helsinki Baltic Herring Market
The Helsinki Baltic Herring Market is one of Finland’s oldest public events, celebrated in Helsinki since 1743. Over the years, the Herring Market has evolved from a practical food-shopping trip for city residents into a beloved autumn tradition, blending Helsinki’s maritime archipelago heritage with modern food culture. The Helsinki Baltic Herring Market offers a delicious autumn journey into the flavors of the northern seas, all within a lively market atmosphere.
Fishermen from all over Finland sail in for the event. In addition to a variety of fish products, visitors can find traditional artisan goods, archipelago specialties, and baked treats. Historic sailing ships will also anchor at the Market Square for the week, where visitors can enjoy fish dishes and other delicacies right onboard.
The Helsinki Baltic Herring Market takes place at Helsinki’s Market Square from 5–11 October 2025. Opening hours are Sunday to Friday, 9 AM to 7 PM, and Saturday, 9 AM to 4 PM. Admission is free.
