The gold nuggets from Lapland are beautiful, and they are being used solely for jewellery. Lappish gold is twice as expensive as gold for industrial purposes. The price depends on the size and beauty of the nugget.

EVERT

Finland’s officially biggest gold nugget was found in 1935 in Luttojoki by a local gold prospector Evert Kiviniemi. It was named after its founder, and weights 392,9 grams

ALEKSI

Finland’s officially second biggest nugget was also named after its founder, Aleksi Kiviniemi. It saw daylight in 1910, when Finland was still an autonomous part of the Russian empire. Back then, every gold nugget weighing more than 400 grams was to be delivered to a museum in St. Petersburg.

MOPO (MOPED) So far, the biggest nugget found here in Tankavaara by a tourist is the beauty of 39.6 grams. The lucky person was an 11-year-old schoolboy, who is said to have bought a small motorcycle with the money he received for the nugget — hence the name, “Moped Nugget”. A replica of it can be seen is in the museum.
