GOLD WASHING EQUIPMENT FROM THE MIDDLE AGES

The museum carpenter Juhani Lahdelma has built replicas of medieval gold washing tools described in the book De Re Metallica, written by Georgius Agricola, the famous 16th century german geologist. Agricola’s text was the first book on geology and the wealth of drawings provides precise measurements and illustrations of the equipment in use. It is interesting to note that all of them are just as appropriate today as they were in Agricola’s times.
