Read about the different church bells
The church has four bells, three in the bell tower and one in the vestibule. Kung Karls Church originally had two bells: the great bell from 1674 and the small bell from 1637, inherited from Ulvesund Chapel. In 1933, two larger bells were purchased, and the small bell was moved to the church’s vestibule to be used for the thanksgiving ringing.
The current great bell has a garland of roses around its neck. Inscriptions on one side: "Cast in 1933 for Kung Karls congregation in Strängnäs Diocese as a gift from the congregation's sewing association, when Dr. theol. Gustaf Aulén was the bishop of the diocese and Pastor Carl Gustaf Eckerberg was the congregation's rector, with Bernt Bäcklund as the assistant pastor. Cast by M. & O. Olsson in Ystad." On the other side: "It is a grace that in our land / Temple bells still ring / Like springs near the edge of the desert / God’s fields offer cooling / Where the sanctuary stands open / To which the people go for worship / Where peace’s palm trees bloom / Where hymns of praise are sung. Swedish Psalm Book no. 560:2."
The middle bell has a garland of roses around its neck, identical in design to the great bell. Inscriptions on one side: "Since the manufacturer Adolf Sörberg in Kungsör donated the foundation for this bell, it was cast in 1933 through the efforts of Kung Karls sewing association. Cast by M. & O. Olsson, Ystad." On the other side: "If I speak in the tongues of men / and of angels, / but do not have love, / I am only a noisy gong / or a clanging cymbal. 1 Cor. 13:1."
The small bell, formerly the great bell from 1674, has two garlands with leaf ornaments, the lower one with jagged edges. Inscriptions on the bell’s side: "Fru Elisabeth Hund, H Daniel Morgonstierna til Runsio and Svarhäl Cap under Wessmanlant H Ewss:B Bolivs Häradshöfding Wäält Erik Olofson Barck Ulfsunds Capelles föreståndare H Simon Aering, H Pett Wreman Past Torpensis Befallningsman Ulfsund B And Wintzer ... ." Around the clapper: "Gloria in excelsis Deo et in terra Pax." Cast by Johan Meyer in Stockholm.
The thanksgiving bell has an inscription band around its neck with the year 1637. According to the 1644 inventory, the bell was purchased for 250 dirham.
