The ceiling and walls of the hall are filled with paintings by Axel Haartman. His great interest in history is shown in the decorative paintings in the hall. He drew his inspiration for them from Naantali’s medieval history, especially the medieval Bridgettine abbey Vallis Gratiae (Valley of Grace, in Swedish Nådens dal, from where Naantali gets its Swedish name of Nådendal), founded in 1438.
