The Guest Room

The Guest Room
From the hall, one of the vaulted doorways leads to the guest room. This is quite a small room, which Axel’s uncle, the artist Casper Wrede (1856-1945), his mother’s brother, used to call “the monk’s cell”.
The wallpaper was designed by Axel in 1925 and produced in a small print run. It was printed in two colour schemes, one in grey and orange and the other in yellow and blue. Both were used when the room had to be re-papered in the 1970s. Originally, the room was papered in the grey and orange version, but it was in such poor condition that it had to be replaced and re-papered with the remaining offcuts that had been kept.
On the table by the wall, there is a bust of Axel by Victor Malmberg.
In the window, there is a bust of Axe’s maternal great grandmother Adelaide Gustava Aspasie Armfelt-von Essen (1801–1881). This is by Walter Runeberg.
