Axel painted a compass rose and the Pole Star on the deep blue ceiling of the stairwell. He also made the lampshade, in the form of three trowels. Axel was a mason, and the shape of the lamp is perhaps meant to refer to this. 

Two plaster sculptures hang in the corner of the upper flight of stairs. They represent Bishop Henry and Saint Birgitta. Beneath the bishop’s foot, one can see a small figure of a man representing Lalli, the bishop’s murderer.
