Amos Valentin Anderson (1878–1961), born on Kemiönsaari island, had a successful career as a media businessman. He began as a publisher of specialized periodicals, expanded his operations into the printing industry, and became well known as a newspaper man, particularly through his ownership of Hufvudstadsbladet. His growing wealth enabled him to become a significant patron of the arts and culture. Anderson amassed an art collection of over 400 works, which became the core of the art collection of Föreningen Konstsamfundet that he founded in 1940.
Anderson had a residential and commercial building (1913) constructed for himself on Yrjönkatu street in Helsinki, designed by architects W.G. Palmqvist (1882–1964) and Einar Sjöström (1882–1923). After Anderson’s death, the building housed the Amos Anderson Art Museum, in accordance with his will, from 1965 to 2017. In March 2023, the space was reopened as the Amos Andersons Hem home museum.
