In Finland, Easter combines religious customs with joyful spring traditions. Children dress up as Easter witches and go door to door with decorated pussy willow branches, blessing homes with good health and luck. Planting Easter grass, or rairuoho, is a popular tradition, with the fresh green sprouts symbolising the springtime reawakening of life.

Finnish Easter tables feature delicacies such as roast lamb, mämmi (a sweet rye pudding served with cream), and pasha (a rich dessert made with quark and dried fruits). You can find mämmi and pasha in supermarkets around Helsinki during the Easter season. And don’t forget the chocolate eggs!
