Saint Nicholas the wonderworker was the Archbishop of Myra during 4th century. He is the patron saint of merchants, travelers and children. He is also the inspiration for Santa Claus!

Saint Nicholas is considered to be the protector of the St. Petersburg navy and this icon of him was gifted to the cathedral by the crew of the 15th fleet of St. Petersburg. The icon went through restoration during the 1990’s thanks to a donation from a wealthy seafarer.
