Painted by a single monk of Valaam monastery over 30 years, this icon is by far one of the most unique icons on display in the church. The centre of the icon depicts some of the events of Easter. In the center, the resurrection of Christ. Surrounding the middle, you can see the whole church year, divided into months. Some of the saints and feasts in the orthodox calendar have been painted on the calendar. Surrounding the calendar, there’s a collection of different icons of Virgin Mary. Virgin Mary is a very popular motif in icon painting and each different style of icon has its own name, each often having a miracle associated with it.
