The walls of the cathedral are covered with frescoes and Russian style ornaments. The current ornaments were repainted during the 1893 renovations of the cathedral, in the same style as the original.10 apostles are depicted in the frescoes, 8 on top of the doric columns and 2 on the western arch. They were painted in the same Italian academic style as the iconostasis. The starry sky that covers the cupola is surrounded by 4 metropolitans of Moscow. The most intriguing fresco is the one above the iconostasis, depicting Lord Sabaoth. Lord Sabaoth is a depiction of how Daniel saw God in the Old Testament.
The last time the frescoes and ornaments were restored was during the 1963-1968 renovation. The ornaments have deteriorated since those times and you can see dark spots that were caused by humidity. Only the starry sky has been restored in 2016.
