Sámi Languages
Language is a way of remembering.
Revitalising a language means helping a community actively bring their endangered language back to life.

North Sámi started to grow stronger in the 1970s and was one of the first examples of language revitalisation. Inari Sámi has seen a remarkable revival since the 1990s. Skolt Sámi began making a comeback in the 2000s, as many young people started learning their grandparents' language. In Vuotso, North Sámi began to thrive again in the 1980s.

Here’s what you’ll find along the Language Path:

1. The exhibition's title poem: Enâmeh láá mii párnááh ("These Lands Are Our Children") by Matti Morottaja.
