At the Church Park Terrace, visitors can take a nostalgic journey just a stone’s throw away to the Ett Hem home museum. The trip is enriched by striking fabric prints of artworks painted by Turku-based visual artist Erika Adamsson at the museum Ett Hem. These works bring to life the bourgeois home of Consul Alfred Jacobsson and his wife Hélène. Adding his own flavor to the colorful presentation is Turku-based photographic artist Vesa Aaltonen, whose collage-like technique collides past and present. Exploring the history and symbolic meanings of the place has opened a new avenue of collaboration for Aaltonen and Adamsson.
Among the works on display from the museum Ett Hem collection in the heart of Turku's National Urban Church Park is a reproduction of Summer Evening, painted in 1883 by Albert Edelfelt at the commission of Consul Jacobsson. The original artwork can be viewed in its authentic interior setting at the museum Ett Hem. That very same interior has also served as inspiration for the works now on display by the artists featured in the park.
“This exhibition brings art into the urban space in a new, experiential way. An unexpected encounter aims to spark broader interest in art and culture — because without culture, we would not be who we are, nor would we have anything to build on,” says Vesa Aaltonen, who is responsible for the exhibition’s design and execution.
