Welcome to indulge in history!
The Hotel and Restaurant Museum is dedicated to food and drink culture as well as the hotel and restaurant industry. The museum is maintained by the Hotel and Restaurant Museum Foundation – Stiftelsen för Hotell- och restaurangmuseet sr. It was founded in 1971.
We are one of the three Cable Museums, together with the Finnish Museum of Photography and the Theatre Museum. Since 1993, the museums have been located at Cable Factory, a former industrial building where undersea cables and other products were once manufactured. Today, Cable Factory is one of Finland’s largest cultural centers. It was built in stages between 1939 and 1954, and upon completion it was the largest building in Finland.
Our extensive collections on food and drink culture consist of photographs, objects, a library, and an archive that includes menus and oral histories. The collections span from the 18th century to the present day and cover the whole of Finland. Through them, we highlight the shared cultural heritage and social significance of food and drink culture in Finland.
We also provide an expert information service where you can search for knowledge, ideas, and inspiration for different needs. Our specialists are happy to help.
