

The hotel room on display is from the 1950s and comes from Hotel Vaakuna in Helsinki. Hotel Vaakuna opened for the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. At the time, it was the largest luxury hotel in Finland. A high-standard hotel required a large amount of maintenance and service staff.
Hotels have brought new food and drink culture and services to Finland. At the same time, they have offered foreign travelers a glimpse into Finnish food culture. The first travelers stayed and dined at coaching inns, most of which were simply ordinary farmhouses. To attract customers, hosts began improving the quality of rooms and services. Rising living standards, better transport connections, and increased leisure time all boosted the popularity of tourism and hotels.
