In Finland, the 1960s and 1970s were a time of change and development. The Nordic welfare state was being built, the economy grew, and the standard of living of Finns improved. Finland became more urbanized, and youth culture gained strength. The restaurant scene also underwent major transformations.
The photo exhibition The Tumultuous Decades invites visitors to view restaurants as stages of society. How were the changes and upheavals of the era reflected in restaurants and their clientele? What kind of foundation did these tumultuous decades create for today’s diverse restaurant culture in Finland? Based on the collections of the Hotel and Restaurant Museum, the exhibition explores the era from the perspective of restaurants.
