Heini Junkkaala: Homoäiti

Heini Junkkaala: Homoäiti is the main work of KokoTeatteri's spring 2026. Homoäiti is a prose monologue written by Heini Junkkaala about motherhood with small children. For the author, writing the monologue text has been a moment of personal time to write her thoughts about being a mother without censoring them.

The gentle, humorous and poignant monologue is performed by Fanni Noroila, who made her first role at KokoTeatter in the play Pyörre in spring 2025. The critics of Pyörre praised Noroila and thanked her for supporting the entire world.

Homoäiti had its premiere at the National Theatre in 2018. KokoTeatter's Homoäiti is the first time that the work has been reinterpreted after its premiere.

The performance, directed by Anna Veijalainen, examines the anatomy of memory and recollections through motherhood. How does memory manifest itself in the body? The performance builds a puzzle of observation. The moment when the observation occurs draws a precise trace, a memory, in the memory. After childbirth, the body of the mother who gives birth lives for a long time as if by different rules. With flesh and blood, it encounters every injustice directed at the child, the echo of obscene comments, a look that has not been given permission. Memories are encapsulated in the body. As time passes, the flesh and blood naturally becomes scarred. But when a new round comes, a new child and a new motherhood, what emerges from behind the scarred armor?
