At Astra, the Foundation for Åbo Akademi allocates at least one percent of construction costs to art. This has resulted in three site-specific works created under the concept “Burning Time,” reflecting our era and linking to the district’s history and future. The concept was developed with Public Art Agency Finland, and the works were selected by a jury representing the foundation, Åbo Akademi, the City of Turku, and the architecture firm Sarc+Sigge. In addition to the site specific art in Astra, there is art that belongs to the Foundation for Åbo Akademi’s art collection. The selection has been made according to the following themes: historical figures, opinion shapers, dreamers, and works with graphic expressions.
