Suomenlinna Shipyard is the oldest shipyard in Finland and one of the oldest still in operation in the world.

Construction of the shipyard began in 1750. The dockyard's basins and maintenance buildings served as a base for the Swedish archipelago fleet's Sveaborg escadrille until 1808. In the 1760s, the dockyard was used to build ships for the Swedish archipelago fleet under the direction of the famous naval architect Fredrik Henrik af Chapman.

During the Finnish period (1918-), the shipyard was initially home to the State Aircraft Factory, which produced Finland's first aircraft. in the 1930s, the shipyard's inner basin was used as a naval submarine base. After the Second World War, shipbuilding activities were taken over by Valmet Oy, which initially built war reparation ships for the Soviet Union.
