In the Sanctuary you can find three large white zinc statues. The statues were a gift from Helsinki´s swedish-finnish parish to celebrate Marthin Luther´s 400th birthday. The statues depict Marthin Luther- the monk who started the Reformation in the Catholic Church, Micael Agricola – who was Luther´s student and who translated the New Testament into Finnish and Philip Melanchton – the colleague of Luther.
Luther´s and Melanchton´s statues were commisioned from France and are copies of the Luther monument in Wittenberg. When the statues arrived to the Cathedral they were smaller than expected and had to place on top of the pedestals.
The statue of Agricola is sculpted by famous finnish artist Ville Valgren.
