The Punta Doncella lighthouse (20th century), together with the Punta Almina lighthouse in Ceuta, emit the two luminous signals that help ships to cross the Strait of Gibraltar. The first lighthouse that was placed in Punta Doncella was projected in 1861. To make it more visible, in 1922 the old tower was replaced by the current one of 20 meters high and 31 meters above sea level, with an octagonal plant of carved stone. The facilities that house aid devices were also expanded, as well as the housing that has been occupied over the years by successive lighthouse keepers, who along with their families have ensured that sailors reached their destinations safely.
