With a seafaring vocation and a splendid balcony overlooking the Mediterranean, Estepona has always been linked to fishing. In the fishing port you have a great opportunity to get in touch with this activity, which is still one of the pillars of Estepona's economy. At dawn, the boats that departed at dusk and have been fishing all night begin to arrive at the port, the so-called "cerco" or "traiñas", and then head to the fish market to start the morning sale. In the afternoon, between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m., the auction of the fish brought in by the trawlers or bacas, as well as the trammel net, line and longline boats, which left at dawn to return before sunset with the catch of the day, takes place.
