Discovering the secrets of ancient burial sites
The first megalithic cemetery of the Costa del Sol was discovered during the works of the Environmental Impact Study of the Costa del Sol Toll Road.
The archaeological excavation was carried out between 2001 and 2002, in the area known as "Corominas", where a spectacular megalithic necropolis was found.a spectacular megalithic necropolis of about 5,000 years ago was found, with five very well preserved tombs and several burials from the campaniform period.
Once the investigation was completed, given the uniqueness of the findings and their good state of preservation, it was decided to move them to a building specially designed for their exhibition, located in the Parque de los Pedregales. This interpretation center has the particularity of being located in a subway building under a mound, which recreates the megalithic funerary architecture.
Inside, the topography of the site has been reconstructed, including the five dolmens in their original position, in which several dozen individuals were exhumed buried with ceramic vessels, stone tools, arrowheads, axes and personal ornaments, especially necklace beads, as well as perforated seashells.
Around the dolmens, a series of panels and showcases have been set up to display the materials found inside the tombs.
