Cattle pastures were often far from a cowherd's home. Cattle huts were built on distant pastures, used for milk processing and as a place for the shepherd to sleep. On Sundays, which was the shepherds' day off, the village youth could gather for fun in the cattle shed. The herd-house was brought to Seurasaari from Maalahti, Ostrobothnia.
