Church Bells
The common belief is that bell towers are situated high up in the church; however, they are actually located in a pavilion adjacent to the church.
Here is why:
In 1841, the three bells from the old Ulrika Eleonora Church belfry were moved to the church tower. However, the Church Construction Committee deemed these bells too small, concerned that their sound wouldn't reach across the growing city. Traditionally, bells were rung by swinging them around, which led the committee to worry that the bell tower couldn't support the strain from tolling larger, new bells. As a solution, they proposed constructing a separate belfry.
