The small cabinet in front of the altar is called the tabernacle. The burning red light under the tabernacle signals that Christ is present in the tabernacle. The communion vessels and already blessed communion bread are stored here. The design is unique in Finland and, like many other parts of the church, is in line with the design of Catholic churches. A few other churches in Finland have later added tabernacles, but they are placed to the side of the altar.
