Ilkka Sariola, who graduated in spring 2014 Silent Saturday Crucifix was inspired by a famous triumphal cross painted in the 1100s, Crucifix of San Damiano. In the crucifix, red blood, suggesting communion, and blue water, suggesting baptism, flow from Jesus' wound. The painting is executed in oil on canvas (136 x 100 cm) on wood. The work is intended to depict the deep essence of the Easter mystery, the redemptive work of God. The lower part of the Krusifiks is painted with a metaphor for the darkness of fallen man: the main entrance to Auschwitz-Birkenau. In the upper part of the Krusifiks, on the other hand, glory shines, as Christ, glorified, is about to enter the presence of the Father, the Holy Spirit and the angels. Ilkka Sariola (b.1969, Lapua) is a visual artist and priest. He graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in 1995.
