Interior painter, Risto Tenhunen, painted the temporary altarpiece in 1896. The temporary altarpiece had been left behind the new one painted by Tuhkanen, where it was found during the 1965 renovations. It continued to be recovered until the 1990s, when it was delivered to the Valamo Conservation Institute for restoration and framing. This altarpiece was the altarpiece of the Kajaani church for 30 years.
