The oldest grave in the cemetery, opened in 1809, is that of Otto von Hausen, a pharmacist who died in 1830. An iron cross stands along the main passage under the shelter of a tree. The graves of young people who drowned in 1888 are located near the fir tree, the largest in Kainuu. The father, nephew and son of Elias Lönnrot, the parents and sister of President Urho Kekkonen and Olympic champion Heikki Savolainen are also buried here. A memorial wall has been built in the Urn area to commemorate the names of the deceased buried there, and a columbarium was built on the ash urn in 2003.
