The Association of Finnish Funeral Directors has chosen Paltaniemi Cemetery as the cemetery of 2021. According to the congregation, the clean and beautiful surroundings of the cemetery are the result of close cooperation. Petteri Hytönen, one week old in 1975, was the first to be buried in the new cemetery. Among those buried near the cemetery are Salme Tervonen, a councillor in the cottage industry, Vilho Toivanen, a director, and Arvo Kemppainen, a member of parliament. The cemetery has 4 400 graves and more than 7 000 people are buried there.

Tuonenviita, the cemetery for free thinkers, is located between the two cemeteries mentioned above in Paltaniemi.
