Here we see the island of Laajasalo, which is connected by the longest bridge in Finland, spanning 1.2 km. Historically, the largest oil port in Helsinki was located along the shores of Laajasalo, and one oil tank from that era, numbered 468, still remains. Inside the bedrock, a large cave that was once used for oil storage has been repurposed as an energy storage facility. In the summer, warm seawater is stored here and later used to heat new houses in the area during the winter. Laajasalo is one of the fastest growing residential areas in Helsinki.
