The Kulosaari Bridge. The first wooden bridge from the mainland to Kulosaari was completed in 1918. By the late 1930s, the large wooden bridge was under heavy strain, with over 500,000 vehicles crossing it annually. Initially, trams also ran on the bridge, with tram service to Kulosaari continuing until 1951. The idea of constructing a new bridge was proposed as early as 1941, but due to the war, it was not realized. The new bridge was finally opened to traffic at the end of 1957. North of the Kulosaari Bridge is a separate metro bridge which was completed in 1973. The Kulosaari Bridge currently bears significant traffic, with approximately 50,000 vehicles crossing it daily.
