In the South Tower room, the floor hatch was the only entrance to the storage room below. Above the hatch, the wall still shows the beam that supported the winch. This room once housed a gunpowder storage, which exploded in 1599. The walls damaged in the explosion were repaired with grey stone in the early 1600s.
