Ladies´ Chamber and Castellan´s Chamber
The Ladies´ Chamber and adjoining Castellan´s Chamber give a good impression of medieval living quarters. In addition to brick, wood was used as a material for roofs and floors in the castle during the Middle Ages. Window recesses and fireplaces made the rooms, which were simply furnished, comfortable to live in.
There were benches along the walls, which served as sleeping places at night. The head of the castle and the most distinguished ladies slept in beds with feather pillows and linen sheets and duvets. The fireplaces in the second-floor chambers had chimneys to prevent smoke and soot from spoiling the textiles. Tablecloths, bench cushions and wall curtains made the rooms cosy and protected them from the cold of the wall. In addition to the open fireplace, the Lady's Chamber has a stove, which is similar to the stoves in contemporary western Finnish houses.
