This print illustrates the origin of our coat of arms, which features three wheels, a motif that is prominent throughout the castle. The image depicts our ancestor, Ghiglione, who, during the Crusades, challenged and defeated a leader of the infidels in single combat. The duel ended in favor of our ancestor, who was triumphantly paraded on a chariot. This is the origin of the emblem, representing the wheels of the victorious chariot.
Many people ask why there are three wheels instead of four. The most rational explanation is that depicting four wheels on a triangular shield would be nearly impossible. Thus, the design was simplified to three wheels.
