In Piedmontese, these markers are called "i termu". I think the term comes from "terminus", the Latin word for "boundary". They were used to mark the limits of land. They were found in the plains fields. You can see the three wheels, which are our family crest, and there are still traces of a number on them. They were probably part of an ancient land registry map. There are three of them, all found in the fertile fields near the Tanaro River.
