The electric bell was used as a means of communication between the servants and the family of the house. There were electric bells in the various rooms which were connected to the servant’s bell box. The box itself was situated on the wall in the servants' quarters. When the family pressed the bell, the signal was marked with a number on the board. The number indicated which room the signal came from.
