The museum showcases Finnish-Russian merchant heritage from the early 20th century, featuring old shops and the everyday life of artisans with their homes and outbuildings in the courtyard. Various craftsmen and, finally, the merchant family Muravjev, who ran a store in the house, have lived and worked in the building and its courtyard.
The Merchant's House Museum is a culturally and historically valuable log building, completed in 1841, with the last of the courtyard buildings constructed in the 1870s.
