Vivamo’s Garden of Silence is designed for contemplation and retreat use. The garden was inaugurated in August 2007 and is the first Garden of Silence in the Nordic countries, inspired by the Quiet Garden movement that began in England. The world’s first Quiet Garden was established in England in 1992, and the global Quiet Garden Movement was founded in 1994. The idea behind gardens of silence is to combine retreat-like spirituality with gardening, offering "garden soul care."
Vivamo’s Garden of Silence was designed by landscape gardener Tuomo Salovuori, and its artistic director was the late Hannu Marttinen. His work includes many of the stone arrangements and environmental art pieces in the garden. Construction began in the autumn of 2005. Among the overgrown greenery, rose bushes and cherry trees planted by Vivamo’s founders were discovered. Efforts have been made to preserve the garden’s original character, and references to Vivamo’s history can be found throughout.
The Garden of Silence also hosts gardening-related courses.
