The museum consists of a 1960s shop interior (the new shop) with its original furnishings, and a storage room (the old shop), also featuring its original decor. The same building houses the shopkeeper's family residence, comprising four rooms and a kitchen. The property also includes two outbuildings.

Ahjonsuu Shop, located in the village of Hauhula, operated from 1924 to 1978. Yrjö Ahjonsuu established the shop, and his daughter Salme continued as the shopkeeper after him. Like many rural general stores of its time, it sold a little bit of everything. In 1999, Pusula-Seura received Ahjonsuu Shop as a donation through Salme Ahjonsuu's will. The will stipulated that the association must turn the shop into a museum. The museum was opened in 2004.
