Located in the outer archipelago, Haapasaari is a relatively untouched gem, about a 40-minute boat ride from Sapokka in Kotka, ideal for tourist groups. The journey with the ferry takes about 2 hours.

In the picturesque Haapasaari, experience authentic ambiance with a small village shop and 19th-century church and school. The Haapasaari shop is a rarity, being Finland’s smallest independent cooperative, serving customers since 1907.

Once a hub for maritime surveillance and pilots, Haapasaari is a kilometer-long, two-part island connected by a narrow, 20-meter sandy isthmus at Kylänlahti. The fishing village is nestled around a sheltered natural harbor. Nearby Kilpisaari and Vanhankylänmaa showcase wartime bunkers and cannons.

Arrive in Haapasaari by your own boat, or on a Meriset cruise, or with Kaakon Saarimatkat. Alternatively, you can reach the island by ferry or water taxi.
