The wooden house area of the lower town and the old town are undoubtedly among Loviisa's most fascinating sights. These idyllic areas survived the city's devastating fire in 1855 and are today one of Finland's few intact 18th-century urban areas. The side building of Degerby Manor, dating back to the 1600s, now serves as a restaurant. On the streets of the lower town, you can enjoy the atmosphere regardless of the season and admire the craftsmanship of the master builders of the time. During events like Loviisa’s Wanhat Talot (Old Houses) and Loviisa’s Open Gardens, you can peek into the inner courtyards and charming homes of these ancient blocks. Don't forget to stop by the quaint boutiques and cafés!
